About the animals:
All the species featured in this series are animals listed by ZSLs EDGE conservation program (www.edgeofexistence.org) as among the worlds rarest most extraordinary, often least known, and most endangered.

The animals on the icon: the icon features three lesser-known endangered species; an olm, which is a blind, slightly snake-like amphibian that lives in caves (people used to think they were dragon embryos); a long-beaked echidna - a spiky, egg-laying, ant-eating hedgehog look-a-like (but no relation) with a really long nose and mouth from New Guinea; and the Bali Starling, the Balinese national bird - a striking white bird with a crest and bright blue streak across its eyes, and almost extinct in the wild due to their popularity amongst collectors.
